2025 BOARD OF DIRECTORS CANDIDATES

Candidate Beverly Frederick

North Rosedale Park Resident: 35 years

Previous or current experience on the NRPCA board and committees:

Current NRPCA Board Vice President

For 35 years, I’ve called North Rosedale Park home, dedicating half of that time to serving our community. My commitment is deeply rooted in the community spirit. I owe my experiences to dedicated hard work and the invaluable guidance of those who were tirelessly contributing long before my arrival.

During my time as North Rosedale Park Civic Association Vice-President, I am very happy to share a summary of my accomplishments achieved through the result of collective effort, and a shared goal to create positive change while strengthening the Association:

  • Identified and rectified gaps in the Association’s insurance coverage for our community house grounds, ensuring and safeguarding our assets against potential risk.
  • Worked closely with the bookkeeper to oversee and facilitate the prompt payment of bills.
  • Spearheaded the re-development of family-oriented programming by actively engaging with a remarkable team of volunteers.
  • Managed the Association’s digital communications, overseeing the website, Tattler newsletter, and impactful e-blasts directed at our neighborhood, enhancing connectivity and information dissemination.
  • Collaborated with the Board President and fellow Board Members to reinstate the Tattler Newsletter’s paper production as well as community circulation, strategizing to have it delivered directly to every home within the neighborhood, revitalizing community engagement.
  • Partnered with the E-blast Editor to establish a sustainable revenue model for our bi-monthly electronic community communications, creating an additional source of revenue while building strong neighborhood communications.
  • Played a pivotal role in the recent recruitment and selection of skilled personnel to manage day-to-day operations for the Community House and Grounds.

The chance to collaborate with exceptional volunteers has been a privilege I cherish.

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020, the North Rosedale Park Civic Association faced significant financial hurdles along with loss of staff. In response, I assumed the role of co-interim Building Manager, offering my time as a volunteer to assist NRPCA in managing wage expenditures, recovering lost revenue, addressing compliant matters while serving through this challenging phase.

An impactful opportunity arose through volunteering with the Vacant Property Task Force. This grassroots initiative became instrumental in revitalizing our neighborhood. Directly contributed to the resurgence of property values across the North Rosedale Park community. Through numerous cleanups, board-ups, advocacy for demolition, and collaboration with city services, these efforts not only sustained but uplifted our communities during challenging times. These accomplishments would have not been possible without the incredible collaboration and commitment of volunteers for the betterment of our community. When given the opportunity to work alongside such extraordinary individuals, seize it.

Candidate Rebecca Banks

Senior Partnerships Manager at Digital Promise Global, supporting the collaborative efforts of education technology developers, practitioners, and researchers to build and sustain a more equitable education system

North Rosedale Park Resident: 8 years

NRPCA Member: 6 years

Previous or current experiences on the NRPCA board and committees:

I have served on the NRPCA board for one term. I am currently the chair of the Outdor Gym Committee which was tasked with exploring options related to the addition of an excercise pad next to the Community House.

Previous or current experiences on other boards or committees:

Palmer Park Preparatory Academy Outdoor Committee 2021-present; Secretary for the PTA of Palmer Park Preparatory Academy 2018-2019; Secretary for PTA of UM Dearborn Early Childhood Education Center 2017-2018.

Why do you want to serve on the NRPCA Board of Directors and what do you plan to accomplish?

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have served on the North Rosedale Park Civic Association Board of Directors for the past two years. A highlight of this time has been working alongside dedicated members of the volunteer board to find and implement solutions that address the financial and administrative challenges of the organization while executing an ambitious renovation plan to modernize the community house.

As the organization stands at a crossroads, we have an opportunity to build on its legacy while addressing the issues that matter most to our neighbors. Challenges like these also present opportunities to rebuild, innovate, and ensure the organization’s practical long-term sustainability. With the extensive physical renovations to the community house now complete, I believe it is time to shift the board’s focus to strengthening relationships and rebuilding trust within the community.

If elected for another term, my intention is to work collaboratively with all members of our neighborhood to ensure the association serves everyone effectively. I recognize that some members of our community feel frustrated, disappointed, or even disillusioned with the association. While I may not always share their views, I firmly believe their voices matter and that their perspectives can illuminate areas where we need to improve. Listening to and addressing these concerns is essential to fostering inclusivity, unity, and progress within our community.
